Sardinia currently offers the largest production of pecorino cheeses in Europe. They are exported and appreciated in many markets, especially in North America. The product is sometimes subject to food piracy and some cheeses, especially in the Americas, are surreptitiously sold under the name of Sardo cheese, but sometimes they are cheeses that have never seen the island.
